Marketing

To go marketing somehow sounds much more exciting than just going shopping doesn’t it? This morning after droppong Jessica off at school, Alice and I walked into town to go marketing.

Our route takes us over a bridge to cross a stream. The water is shallow but has a lot of movement and looks beautiful in morning sunshine. ‘Look!’ said Alice.

We then go through part of the park which is always filled with birdsong. If you look closely you can see the bumpy little dots on the tree branches which are buds with the promise of leaves to come.

We then cross the river on another bridge, and this time when Alice called ‘Look, look!’ there were two ducks having a waddle and a paddle.

We bought birthday cards for my lovely goddaughter and her sister who have birthdays a week apart, and then some laundry liquitabs. These are the kind of thing I like to stock up on when I can. I surely must have been a squirrel or a tittlemouse in another lifetime, as I do love feeling stocked up. They were on a particularly good offer today, so I bought plenty and shouldn’t need to buy them again for another five or six months!

On the way home we stopped off at the fishmonger van which comes on a Tuesday. I’ve seen it there for a while now, and have resolved to visit once a week. I threw myself on his mercy in the choosing of the fish. I explained that I like to cook but haven’t done much fish cookery, and happy to try out different kinds of fish as I get more confident. Oh it was beautiful, the different colours and subtle shading on the skins. I came home with cod which he pinboned for me. He said that it would keep a few days in the fridge, but I want us to eat it as fresh as possible and get the best of the flavour. My plan is to make homemade oven chip and a minty spring oniony pea puree to go with it. I am looking forward to our new weekly fish adventure!

I also plan (still!) go get back into menu planning so I can go to the butchers once a week for our meat. It feels good to be able to support local businesses.

I wish we had a baker, but the nearest we have is a branch of Greggs which no longer sells bread! I have been thinking of starting to make my own again one day soon…

And now time for a cup of tea before getting on with the rest of our day…
