On Saturday morning, we were sitting in bed, drinking tea and pondering what we should do. My lovely husband smiled and suggested we go to Aldeburgh…and so we did! Just like that! An hour and a half in the car up the coast, then lunch at Regatta, an ice cream from Ives eaten on the beach. Oh that lovley pebbly beach is so blissful and Jessica who adores pebbles just loved it. A walk down the high street, popping into Lawson’s Delicatessen for Happy Carrot Salad and baking apples. So much fresh air. Wood fired pizza and Aspall’s Cyder. Then home with a sleepy baby drowsing in her car seat.
On Sunday, an afternoon at Hanningfield Reservoir. Tea and cake at the visitor centre, looking out of the most enormous window at the vast expanse of reservoir, with ducks and squirrels scurrying about so close to us. A walk through the woods, everything so fresh and damp and verdant. Dotted round the woods are characters from The Wind in the Willows. We had fun finding them, although Jessica was a little nonplussed!
And today has been a wet day, perfect for staying home, playing with the baby and drinking tea. Odd to think that there are no more bank holidays until Christmas now!
